Steps We’re Taking to Make Every Visit Safe

At Advanced Dental Arts NW, the safety of our patients and staff is our top priority. We are excited to be able to see you smile, and we have put in place advanced protocols to make your visit safe. Please see below for a quick introduction to these steps, and do not hesitate to give us a call with any questions or concerns.

We all know it. COVID is pandemic. Social Distancing. Limited gatherings. Life via Zoom. It is very easy to fall into the Delay/Defer mindset.

But while this is sage advice for some things, it is not a reason to avoid taking care of yourself. You still need to monitor your health, still need to keep active, still need to work toward the best you can be. This continues to be the key to overall health, and your dental care is an integral part of that formula.

Because Life goes on, and things happen. Tarter and stains accumulate on teeth. Gums become a little puffier. Decay can get a foothold, and progress rapidly. Teeth chip, fillings break. Jaws pop and muscles ache. You KNOW you should get back to regular cleanings and exams and treatment, but just how safe is it to go to the dentist now?

At ADANW, we believe it is extremely safe. For while we have always adhered to extremely comprehensive infection-control standards, our staff has doubled down on every precaution. The protections we now routinely provide include:

*Medical and temperature screenings prior to being seated

*HEPA-grade rapid air filtration, scrubbing aerosols from the office air within scant minutes, with a 99.9% efficiency

*K95 masks for all office personnel, all the time, the most effective disposable masks available

*Barrier controls wherever possible, which are disposed of, or fully laundered, between every patient

*Each and every surface of each room is completely disinfected by hand, after every patient

*Three different sterilizing systems, to assure zero possibility of transmission. And we monitor each of these every three working days through Oregon Health Sciences University, to ensure they are always working optimally. Over the past dozen years, we have never had a failed result

*Nitrile gloves for every interaction with every patient, always

*Pre-treatment anti-microbial mouth rinses for every patient, to reduce any pathogens that may occur in the course of their treatment

*High speed evacuation, whenever we are working or inspecting intraorally, with the debris carried to an efficient filter before being disposed of in accordance with CDC Best Practices Protocols

*Electronic records, so there is no possibility of transmission via documents

*Eye protection for patients and staff, to limit inadvertent droplets from landing near the eyes

*TRUE SOCIAL DISTANCING in the clinic, where we try to provide at least a 20-foot distance between patients at all times, for all procedures

*Phone consultations for those issues that might be resolvable remotely

In addition, we do not schedule patients intensely, and we rarely see multiple patients at the same time. Rarely do we have more than one person in our reception area at a time, the reception area is sanitized after each patient, and we have two separate business desks for appointments and scheduling, both for your privacy and protection.

But really, just how "safe" is our dental office, for the patient? We believe it is very, very safe. Nationally, you never hear of transmission through a dental office, which is high praise for the Profession as a whole. And at Advanced Dental Arts NW, we KNOW we are head and shoulders above the national protocols for your protection.

After all, you trust us with your dental health and well-being. We have a moral imperative to also protect your complete health. Because YOU are our reason for being.

Stay Safe. Stay Healthy. Take Care of Yourself.

Advanced Staff Training

Each member of our team has completed additional awareness and prevention programs to enhance their knowledge and preparedness.

Daily Health Checks of Our Team

No contact temperature checks and a quick set of questions will ensure our team is ready, willing and able to provide safe dental care – every day.

No Handshakes or Hugs

We truly do love our patients. However, we will save our hearty welcomes and goodbyes for a later date when things are "back to normal".

Personal Hygiene Standards

Along with short hair or hair that is worn up; this means no long fingernails, no jewelry, and no watches for any team member while in the office.

Change Work Clothes at Work

In the past, you might have seen us at the grocery store in our stylish scrubs. No longer. Now, we change into and out of our newly-cleaned scrubs at the office, every day.

Anti-Microbial Rinse

In addition to brushing and flossing before your visit, we will provide an Oracare solution to rinse in your mouth for 60 seconds and reduce bacteria.

Virtual Waiting Room

Now, you can check-in from your car. As a result, you are able to minimize contact with others, bypass the reception area, and go directly to your treatment room.

No Patient Gloves Allowed

Minimizing cross-contamination is an important part of our plan. We will ask you to dispose of any outside gloves before you enter.

Sequenced Patient Scheduling

Plain and simple, we are not seeing as many patients. We are allocating more time between visits for coming, going and cleaning.

Pre-Screening of Every Patient

A quick health questionnaire and consent form along with a no-touch temperature check will be completed when you arrive at our office.

Expanded Patient Appointments

In an effort to save you time and multiple exposures, we are offering extended appointments. This allows us to do more dentistry in a single visit.

At-Risk Patient Hours

Relax. We have hours dedicated exclusively to our mature and medically-concerned patients. Let us add peace-of-mind to your next visit.

Some consultations and follow-up visits can be handled via our secure, patient communication portal. It is a cool, ultra-safe, and efficient extension of our office.

Hospital-Grade Hand Sanitizing Station

Every patient will be asked to thoroughly disinfect their hands before entering the clinical area of our practice.

Social Distancing in Place

Fewer chairs in our reception area, helpful signs and one-way traffic in our treatment area make 6’ spacing a practical reality.

Cleaning After Every Appointment

We are super clean as we thoroughly wipe, sanitize, and disinfect all instruments, equipment and surfaces in each operatory after every patient.

Deep Cleaning Every Evening

Along with cleaning and sanitizing during the day, we take things to another level at night with a thorough top-to-bottom scrub down.

CDC-Approved Instrument Sterilization

This is standard procedure at all times, and nothing has changed. Anything that goes near your mouth is heat and pressure cleaned between every use.

N95 & ASTM Level 3 Masks

The beautiful smiles of our clinical team – dentists, hygienists, and assistants – will be protected behind double-masking at all times.

Front Desk Masks

Even our friendly administrative team will be wearing ASTM Level 3 masks. Don’t worry. They are smiling behind those masks!

Face Shields

Two masks are not enough. Our clinical team will also protect you and themselves through the use of FDA Approved PET face shields.

Disposable, Protective Coats & Hats

When appropriate, our team will utilize another layer of protection to minimize the spread or absorption of airborne particles.

Advanced Chairside Suction

Whenever possible, we will activate high speed evacuation to minimize aerosol contamination and improve air quality.

HEPA Air Filtration

Our air has never been cleaner. We have added HEPA-grade filters to our HVAC system along with stand-alone air cleaners in each operatory.

No Magazines or Activities

This may make our reception area a little less exciting, but it makes it much safer as well.
