What Are Dentures?
Well, yes, there are several. The old solution of removable dentures has been around for nearly three hundred years. Dentures can restore the bite adequately, but because they have limited retention, they tend to dislodge readily and can lead to sores on the gums and to embarrassing social situations. In addition, the bulk of the prosthetic may compromise speech as well as the sensations of temperature and taste. But despite this, dentures are a vast improvement over no teeth at all and remain a viable option for many people.
A Better Kind of Denture
When dental implants were developed, they were adapted to be able to anchor dentures, with the result being that removable dentures could now be made with less plastic, cover less of the gums, and have a much better hold. This makes for a far more stable bite and provides far fewer moments of embarrassment and discomfort for the wearer (as in none). With an implant-retained denture, there are few things that can go wrong, and the dentures require only minimal maintenance to keep looking and feeling like new.
All-On-4 Dental Implants
The latest development in implant dentures involves a procedure called All-On-4. It has become the most comfortable and effective way to restore a full arch of missing teeth while preserving the remaining bone and enhancing muscle functions.
For this treatment, there are four to six implants placed per arch, and a new denture is attached at the same appointment so the patient instantly recovers their teeth. This temporary denture remains in place for many months until the implants have completely fused with the surrounding bone. At that point, the patient will return to Advanced Dental Arts NW to have their temporary replaced with a permanent, custom-made denture. At the end of the entire process, the patient will have their new, rock-solid set of teeth and be ready to speak, chew, and socialize with the utmost comfort and confidence.
Although the patient will not be able to remove their denture (a major convenience for the patient overall), our team can. So, at cleaning appointments, we remove the denture from the implants, evaluate the tissue health, make adjustments as necessary, and then reattach it to the implants. The actual cleaning is done outside of the mouth, and the entire treatment is completely painless.
And, if repairs are ever necessary, we can send the denture to a lab and replace it with the original temporary denture for the day or two needed to make the permanent denture good as new.
